Educational Endeavors:

One of the goals of the Fulton County Quilt Club is to promote quilting and further quilting education.  This year our meetings have focused on presenting basic quilting techniques through mini workshops.

  • January -- Rene presented a session on quilting tools that are available today.
  • February -- Deb helped participants learn how to work with color and select fabrics for their quilts.
  • March -- Barb showed members how to measure and cut fabric, and how to sew accurately.
  • April -- Helen demonstrated how to mark a quilt and then hand quilt it.
  • May -- Karen showed us how to machine quilt.
  • June -- Members had an opportunity to complete the projects begun in the previous months and work with "old" quilters to polish their quilting skills.

June Meeting:

In case you missed our June quilt club meeting:  We met at the Fulton County Library at 9:30 a.m.  The topics discussed were:

1.  Three quilt club members (Cindy, Deb, and Leslie) have been working with Fulton County Medical Center long-term care patients on quilting.  They have been helping the interested residents quilt a queen-size quilt top and having a wonderful time.

2.  Since McConnellsburg's "Make a Difference Day", quilt club members have been creating lap quilts for the long-term care patients at the Fulton County Medical Center.  Twenty-four lap quilts were donated to the Medical Center for the first round, and more lap quilts were donated at the June meeting.   The Medical Center still needs another twenty lap quilts.  The quilts should measure 22" by 36" and be made of 100% cotton fabric and cotton batting.

3.  Cindy received a thank-you card for the $200 donation made to the library and the $200 donation made to the Fulton County Teen Advisory Board that meets at the library.

4.  Club members will again be making pumpkin and leaf coasters to be given out at the Fulton County Quilt Club quilt show this fall.   Leaf and pumpkin patterns were available for those who wish to trace them.

5.  Raffle tickets and post cards were distributed so that members can begin to sell the raffle tickets for this year's raffle quilt and post the post cards to built awareness of the quilt show.

6.  The Fulton County Fair is coming up on August 15-21.  A sign-up sheet will be available at the next meeting so members can sign up to help with the club display.  Next year's raffle quilt will be available to demonstrate hand quilting and a "remember when" display will be created that shows how quilting has changed in the thirty years since the quilt club was established.

July Meeting:

In case you missed our July quilt club meeting the following topics were discussed:

1.  Members discussed ideas for the quilt club display at the fair next month.

2.  A sign-up sheet was passed around so members could sign up for times to work at the fair.

3.  Plans for September's quilt retreat were made.  The retreat will be held at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in McConnellsburg.  Sessions will be held to show how to make a quilted Pineapple wall hanging and a quilted casserole carrier.  Further information about the project supplies needed for the retreat will be posted soon.
